Canon History

Alex was born in Imil into the Mercury Clan. They were the guardians of Mercury Lighthouse and masters of Water Psynergy. Except they actually didn't fully know that last part, they just knew enough to put some of the powers to use. He became an apprentice under his uncle at some point, but somewhere along the line said uncle died and the only two people left in the clan were Alex and his cousin, Mia. His life consisted of keeping an eye on the Lighthouse and being one of two people that could heal the sick and otherwise help the people of the town. So, like anyone in a position of having high respect from everyone he knows would want to do, he up and vanished without a word one day.

The next time we know anything about what he was doing, he was traveling with Saturos and Menardi. Their goal was to light the Elemental Lighthouses and restore the power of Alchemy in Weyard. The world would totally break apart otherwise and that would be slightly inconvenient. Alex really wanted the lighthouses to be lit again too for a totally different purpose believe it or not, so he was helping where he saw fit. Also Felix was with them.

They went to Mt. Aleph to get the Elemental Stars from Sol Sanctum, except Alex was lurking most of the time. He had his reasons. He always has his reasons. He just never explains them to anyone. Once they had gotten into the chamber where the Stars were kept, Alex finally showed his face. But as soon as Isaac and Garet grabbed the last one, the room started turning into an active volcano and the all-powerful Wise One showed up and it looked pretty bad overall. Alex thought it would be a good idea if they left and took Jenna and Kraden with them so the others would follow if they survived. They'd bring the missing Star to them, it'd save a step, and they didn't have a better idea anyway.

Their first stop on the Elemental Lighthouse Tour was beautiful Mercury Lighthouse! Alex had to get them inside and climb it with them since he could use Water Psynergy, because oddly enough you need the same element to go through its respective Lighthouse. They made it to the top and lit the first beacon. Only that was when Isaac showed up with his now bigger group trying to stop them. Said group now included Mia. She was not happy with him. Oh snap. Alex stayed out of sight, but he had to blow his cover when Saturos lost to the group in battle so they could both escape.

They headed for Venus Lighthouse next. Alex bothered to do a little more work by using his Psynergy to get them through the Suhalla Desert. That's also where they found Sheba, which finally got all of the elements covered by the Adepts. But they decided to treat it more like a hostage situation. Once they reached Venus Lighthouse, Alex just kinda hung around at the base. Eventually he had to help get Jenna and Kraden to their meeting point when Felix pretty much bailed on that job. Alex had to make geysers which sent soldiers flying off the screen; it was really annoying, but he had no other choice. Nope. So thanks for that, Felix.

Alex finally met them both at the peninsula just in time for Venus Lighthouse to be lit. However, this caused a huge earthquake and the bit of land they were on got ripped off the mainland and started floating away. Alex never seemed overly concerned, though. He even bothered to tell Jenna and Kraden there was something they needed to see when Felix and Sheba washed up on the beach. But then Alex got a bit of a slap in the face once they were conscious; apparently Isaac and company had shown up at Venus Lighthouse and Saturos and Menardi were dead. Bit of a problem since he was just left with Felix and his sister and some random girl and an old man. Yeah, he already knew he was done with them.

He got his chance to ditch them only a few minutes later when they got hit by a tidal wave and struck a continent. Alex easily sustained the hit and just left while they were unconscious. He then started looking for a boat because that was the only way to get to the final two Lighthouses. Unfortunately, the same tidal wave he hadn't flinched at ruined almost every ship he could have used. He ran into Felix's group a couple times since they were also looking, but other than having the Jupiter Star they didn't concern him much.

Alex finally ran into Karst, who was really pissed because she heard her sister was dead. She and Agatio were looking for Isaac for revenge. And maybe they'd help with that Lighthouse thing, too. Either way he started tagging along with them. However, he heard that Felix's group had actually been accomplishing things. They were now worth keeping tabs on again.

Eventually, the entire surviving main cast ended up at Jupiter Lighthouse and Karst and Agatio nearly killed Mia, which was not cool with Alex. He did help the duo get away after Felix's group pummeled them, but he parted ways pretty shortly after that. He then went all the way back to Mt. Aleph. See, when all the Lighthouses were lit, it would create a huge surge of power over Mt. Aleph called the Golden Sun. If you happened to be there when it happened, you'd take in the energy and you'd be all-powerful and immortal and lots of other shiny things. Alex kinda neglected to mention this part even though he knew about it. So he climbed to the top just in time to be there when Mars Lighthouse was ignited. And then he took the power and was unstoppable!

...Except not. The Wise One had seen what he was doing there from the start and had set up a thing in the Mars Star so some of the power got distributed to Isaac. Alex did manage to get a lot of power and nearly endless life, but the Wise One could still own him. Case in point: he slammed Alex to the ground a couple times and let him fall with Mt. Aleph as it collapsed. But the Wise One said he might survive. Maybe.

Very unsurprisingly, he did. 10 years after the Golden Sun, Alex appeared in the kingdom of Ayuthay. He went to start the Alchemy Well, which was another useful Alchemy Machine. He still kept his distance from everyone and didn't let them get a good look at his face. Well, everyone but the king's sister, Veriti. They apparently... uhh... got really close. But not too long after the Well was fully operational, Alex did what he does best and just vanished without a word and was never seen there again.

30 years after the Golden Sun, Alex was working with the mysterious Tuaparang nation. They were working to activate a few Alchemy Machines themselves, kinda like everyone else he'd "helped". He showed up wearing a half-mask and started encouraging the children of everyone from Isaac's group to get the rest of them up and running. Kraden was with them for the first encounter and Alex didn't hide the fact that they knew each other but never gave his name.

He came across Matthew's group again at the Alchemy Dynamo, where he calmly convinced Ryu Kou to activate Luna Tower while Matthew fought Blados and Chalis. It should probably be noted that the group had acquired two more members since Alex had last seen them, and he didn't seem very interested in one of them at all. Even though he also was a Water Adept. And it was never mentioned in front of Alex that the boy was about 19. And from Ayuthay. Anyway, once the fight was over, he told the kids to call him Arcanus and escaped with Blados and Chalis before the tower rose.

Fun fact: Luna Tower was also known as Eclipse Tower because it sucked away the light from most of the continent of Angara. It would shut itself off once it had enough light, but that kinda took a long time. In the meantime, monsters that lived in the darkness appeared and entire towns got wiped out. Matthew's group got to run around the bodies and everything. Good times. Even though Alex's only physical action during that whole encounter was to push over Hou Zan and Tyrell with just his Psynergy, they all fairly easily pinned the blame for this disaster on him and his "colleagues".

Therefore, the fact that Alex went to Tonfon to leave them an orb they would need to get to the Apollo Lens was really weird. This is because the Apollo Lens could end the Grave Eclipse much more quickly. He was even waiting for them at Apollo Sanctum, where Kraden finally said who Alex was. But Blados and Chalis were trying to use the Apollo Lens for their own unexplained plan and Alex is the only one that gets to have a successful hidden agenda, so he wanted them stopped and to have the Lens fired to end the Eclipse. He was kind enough to hold off the pair just long enough for the group to make it to the Lens. Later, when Matthew was trying to fire it, Alex somehow spoke to his mind or something to rightly inform that he couldn't do it. I'm only mentioning this because that's the last we've "seen" of him.
